Royston returns to Stones

Wednesday 27th September 2006

Maidstone United have today announced that central defender Ryan Royston has returned to the club following a short stint with Kent Leaguers Thamesmead Town.

The 25-year-old, Sidcup based PE Teacher, moved to Bayliss Avenue as he couldn’t commit to Ryman League football with the newly promoted Stones.

Joint-manager Alan Walker explained Royston’s situation on www.maidstoneunited.co.uk.

He said: “He originally went to Thamesmead because he had started a new job and was unsure how it would affect his ability to train and play.

“However, as he’s settled into the job he is now able to make a commitment and although they may still be occasions when he is unavailable, Lloyd (Hume) and myself are willing to accept this to allow the return of Ryan to the squad.

“This comes as good news for us as Lew Watts has confirmed he will be leaving the club and coupled with the signing of Lee Shearer (from Folkestone Invicta) at the start of the week it certainly gives us a lot more options in defence now.”
