Roy Guiver comes in to turn Hythe Town's youngsters' fortunes around

Wednesday 21st May 2014

ROY GUIVER has returned to Hythe Town to help improve the fortunes of the club’s youth team.

The club have been struggling in the Kent Youth League for a while and they finished rooted to the bottom of the Under 18 South Division last season collecting two wins and a draw from their 18 games, conceding 85 league goals.

However, the club finished on four points because they were deducted three points for fielding three ineligible players against Whitstable Town.

Hythe Town now have a clean slate with a new chairman (Trevor Kennett) and new manager (Tim Dixon) in charge of the club and Guiver is looking for fresh talent to turn around the club’s fortunes.

Guiver, 30, who lives in Folkestone, has been joined by South African born Antonio De Vivo, who holds UEFA A Licence, Youth Module 1, Instructor Certificate and various international certificates.

“We are having open trials on Tuesday 10 June and Thursday 12 June at 6:00pm and also a training session on the Saturday at 10 am at South Road Recreation Ground in Hythe,” said Guiver, who has also played for Folkestone Invicta and Faversham Town.

“We are very excited about some of the under 16s coming through as well as trying to recruit a few more players.”

Guiver says Dixon and his assistant Darren Beale will take an interest in the youth set-up this coming season.

He said: “I spoke to Tim yesterday and I know he is excited about the team as well and he will help out where possible but obviously he has a busy few weeks ahead of him.

“I wish him luck because he is a genuine football man and also I’m sure Darren Beale the new assistant is keen to help as well.”

Guiver admitted it’s been a blow to him to see the club’s successful manager leave the club after five great years at the helm at Reachfields Stadium.

“Scott Porter is a good friend of mine and what he has done for Hythe will never be forgotten,” said Guiver.

“He is a legend down here and I’m sure it won’t be long before he finds a new club.”

And when asked his own plans for next season, Guiver, who made three appearances for Southern Counties East Football League runners-up Ashford United at the start of last season and can play at both ends of the pitch, replied: “I’m 30 now. I might give it one more go next season.”
