TUNBRIDGE WELLS begin the search for a new manager today, following Mike Robbins' decision to stand down after eighteen months in charge at Culverden Stadium, writes Stephen McCartney.Robbins, speaking to www.kentishfootball.co.uk today, blamed the current economic climate for his decision to quit the cash-strapped Bulmers Cider Kent League club.
The Wells began last season well and in amongst the title contenders, but budget cuts led to star players leaving the club and Robbins had to settle for a disappointing tenth place finish in the end.
"I have had a fantastic time at the Wells," said Robbins. "But I believe that it is time for me to move on."
He added: "As manager and as a club I feel that we are ever so slightly different places and possibly even with different ambitions.
"The board has stressed to me the need to stabilise the club in the current economic downturn and start building for the future.
"I believe that as a coach and manager that I am further on from that, and want to manage or be part of a club that at this moment is ready to match my ambitions.
"I have thought long and hard about this, as the board, players and supporters have all made me feel very welcome and very much at home at the Culverden."
When asked about his next role, Robbins replied, "I will see what comes along. I have nothing in the pipeline at present, but I won't want to be out of it all for too long."
Representing the board, club secretary Joe Croker added, "The board wishes to thank Mike for his contribution to the club and to wish him well for the future.
"Candidates are being identified and talks are in the pipeline to find a replacement who can deliver to Tunbridge Wells FC the enduring success that the club is building towards."
Elsewhere, Sittingbourne have confirmed that they will be issuing a statement tonight, with news that chairman Andy Spice is to step down after ten years at in charge of the Bourne Park club.
