Robbins: I want hungry players - EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW

Friday 23rd June 2006
Sussex County League side Rye United have landed a plum pre-season friendly at Ryman Premier League newcomers Ramsgate next month, writes Stephen McCartney.

Looking forward to the clash at Southwood Stadium on Saturday, 29th July (3pm), Mike Robbins, the newly appointed manager of the Sussex club admitted he is looking forward to the game against Jim Ward’s back-to-back champions.

In an EXCLUSIVE interview with www.kentishfootball.co.uk  Robbins said: “This will be a fantastic challenge for us, visiting the Rams after back to back promotions.

“Jim and Danny (Ward) are excellent mentors for coaches like myself and their catalyst is a great one to follow.”

Aiden Pursglove, who played under Robbins in Ashford Town’s reserve side last season, will be given an opportunity with the Sussex outfit.

Robbins added: “I will be trying to put together a group of lads who are hungry for success not money.

“Players in the mould of Aiden, who is yet to be tried at this level, need someone to put a little faith in them.

“Our pre-season is fully planned now, and will include many bonding exercises, including the assault course at Hythe.”

Meanwhile, Rye United also travel to Lydd Town (22nd July) and Bearsted (5th August).
