Really pleased to be back, says newly-appointed Deal Town boss Darren Anslow

Wednesday 18th June 2014
DEAL TOWN have unveiled Darren Anslow as their new manager today.

Anslow, 44, was appointed the new manager at the Southern Counties East Football League club today after Paul Murray left to join Ramsgate to form Dean Hill’s management team on 26 May.

Anslow, who is Academy manager at Ryman League Division North club Cray Wanderers, applied for the Hythe Town job, but missed out on the job after the Cannons appointed former Ramsgate boss Tim Dixon.

Deal Town finished in thirteenth-place (bottom five) in the Southern Counties East Football League last season, having collected 9 wins and 2 draws from their 32 games.

Anslow said: “Really pleased to be back, especially at a club with the history and previous successes of Deal Town FC.

“I can’t wait to get started and looking forward to working with a fantastic chairman and board.

“I’m not setting any targets, just looking to build on the foundations already in place at the club and continue the good work that Paul Murray had started to put in place during the second half of last season.”

Anslow’s appointment at The Charles Sports Ground came on the same day that news filtered through that George Howard, 20, is expected to be coming home soon home following his car accident in South Africa on Friday, 23 May.

Anslow, Micky Collins – who is manager at Sevenoaks Town – and striker Richmond Kissi, arranged a benefit game for the goalkeeper on 8 June.

Anslow guided a Kent League XI side to beat Collins’ Kent Pro XI 5-3 at Coldharbour Leisure Centre in Eltham, an event which raised £4,000.

Martin Di Fede who set up an on-line fundraising page www.gofundme.com/9ktsy0 – which has raised £13,880 – said:  “George is coming home!

“The doctors have said he is now well enough to travel home.  They are making the necessary arrangements now and he should be back in the next week or so.

“Once home he will need to remain in hospital for a period of time before he will be discharged.

“This is obviously the news we have all been praying for.  Can't wait to see him!”

Anslow added: “Fantastic news about George. I spoke to his dad this morming and all are really positive and just looking forward to seeing him as soon as possible.”
