Ramsgate Ladies 3 Woodstock Park 1

Wednesday 08th February 2006
Last Sunday’s mid-season friendly, between the newly-formed Ramsgate side and Woodstock Park from the Kent Division of the South East Counties League, was always going to be a close game, with both sides looking to show their full potential, writes Sarah Watkiss.

The match started at a good pace, with Woodstock looking to be the more settled of the two sides and Ramsgate struggling to find their feet.

However, as the half progressed Ramsgate’s confidence grew as they began using the full extent of the pitch, moving Woodstock out of position and resulting in a well worked goal coming from the midfield and placed neatly in the top corner by the home attack to take the lead.

This seemed to give Woodstock new drive and they responded shortly after when a ball through the Ramsgate defence was confidently put away by the Woodstock forward.

In the second half Ramsgate came out with renewed determination and from then on controlled the game with a series of attacks from both wings.

The second goal came early in the second half, with Ramsgate instantly pushing forward and beating the away defence, and Michelle Williams knocking the ball to the right of the Woodstock ‘keeper.

It wasn’t long before an accurate ball was fed through to Laura Baker, who used excellent individual skill and composure to net Ramsgate’s third and put the game beyond Woodstock.

The remainder of the match continued to be played in good spirits with Woodstock being persistent in their attempts to beat the Ramsgate defence and to challenge the home keeper.

For all their efforts though the defence held and they were not rewarded with a goal, and Ramsgate Ladies’ first game resulted in a 3-1 home win at Southwood.

The Ladies’ team is in action at Southwood again this Sunday, when they face Ashford Town (also kicking off at 2pm).
