Brighton & Hove Albion snap up Ramsgate defender Jacob Mensah: It’s not often that a Premier League club comes in for one of your players to show his talents

Thursday 31st January 2019

PREMIER LEAGUE club Brighton & Hove Albion have made an official approach for Ramsgate centre-half Jacob Mensah, who will play for their Academy during a trial.

“It’s not often that a Premier League club comes in for one of your players to show his talents. I’m personally delighted for him and I wish him all the best,” said Ramsgate boss Nick Davis.

“It shows all the hard-work behind the scenes at the club.”

Ramsgate chief executive officer, Paul Bowden-Brown added: “It goes to show the depth of our quality within the youth and the academy at Ramsgate FC."

Davis has added 21-year-old winger Gil Carvalho to his squad, ahead of Saturday’s home game against basement side Greenwich Borough.

“I’m delighted to have signed for the club to start a brand-new chapter here,” said Carvalho.

“I worked with Nick two years ago (at Sittingbourne) and most of my best performances came under him.

“When he approached me to work with him again, I was always going to take it.”

“My aim is to score and create as many goals as possible for the team and to help them finish in a good league position this season.”

Davis, told www.ramsgate-fc.co.uk:  “We need to keep pushing on, improving and finish the season as best we can and as high as we can. All with one eye on really pushing on next year and competing for promotion, which is the ultimate aim.

“You will also see a new player in squad in Gil Carvalho, who I have worked with previously at Sittingbourne. He will give us more competition in an attacking sense and I’m sure he will be a crowd favourite with his pace, trickery and directness.”

Ramsgate currently sit in eleventh-place in the Bostik South East Division table with 27 points from 22 games.

Steve O’Boyle and Steve Sallis jointly took charge of Greenwich Borough for the first time ahead of last weekend’s goal-less home draw against Whitstable Town and the club have collected 17 points from 22 games.

The pair are the struggling clubs third management team of the season, following Luke Medley and Huseyin Torgut.
