I think it will be a great battle to the end, says Punjab United manager Jugit Sian

PUNJAB UNITED manager Jugjit Sian says it will take a huge effort from his side if they are to win promotion at the end of their debut season.

The Gravesend-based side suffered a 4-2 defeat away to Erith & Belvedere last Saturday and remain in second-place in the Southern Counties East Football League First Division table.

K Sports thrashed basement side Crockenhill 8-0 at Wested Meadow and are now four points clear at the top on 47 points from 19 games, while Fisher remain third with 38 points with a game in hand.

Punjab United host 12-placed side Stansfeld tomorrow, a side that have collected 25 points from their 18 games and lost 3-0 at home to Meridian VP in their last outing.

“It wasn’t a great day for us at Erith & Belvedere.  We had a few numbers short and we didn’t really get going,” admits Sian.

“We were slow from the start and sloppy with our passing and full credit to Erith they deserved the win and we have to take the negatives from the game and put them right for the next one.

“I’m looking forward to Saturday’s game with Stansfeld.  It won’t be easy and I’m expecting a tough game.

“I said to the lads last week that we need to be at the races every week as the teams are raising their game when they play us and we need to be on top of our game to get something out of it.”

K Sports and Punjab United are both in the automatic promotion places and Sian wants to consolidate their position.

“It’s been an excellent start to the season and think we have a good chance of promotion if we can continue to play our way,” he said.

“It won’t be easy as K Sports and Fisher are up there with us but I think it will be a great battle to the end.

“If we can get promoted it will be a fantastic achievement for the club, the supporters and the community.

“Nothing is guaranteed and it will take a huge effort now to get us promoted but we will give it our best shot, that’s all we can do.”
