To be on the verge of back-to-back promotions is just amazing for the whole club, says Punjab United boss Jugjit Sian
PUNJAB UNITED manager Jugjit Sian says winning back-to-back promotions for the club will feel amazing!
K Sports secured promotion following their 3-0 win at Phoenix Sports Reserves last weekend and Punjab United can follow suit at the same venue tomorrow.
K Sports sit at the top of the Southern Counties East Football League First Division with 81 points from 32 games, while Sian’s side are in second-place four points behind but with a game in hand.
Punjab have picked up maximum points over the Easter period by beating Sutton Athletic 3-2 at home before thrashing basement side Crockenhill 5-0 at home on Wednesday night.
“The Easter campaign has been really good. We knew these games would be crucial and we managed to pick up six points,” said Sian.
“The Sutton Athletic game on Monday was tough and they gave us a really good game.
“We started slow, went behind, but the team never gave up and continued to press forward and managed to win the game.
“Wednesday night was a good performance and fair play to Crockenhill, they never gave up, worked hard as a group and managed to frustrate us until the second half.”
Punjab United will join K Sports in the Premier Division should they beat fourteenth-placed Phoenix Sports’ second string tomorrow.
Sian said: “It’s been an unbelievable season so far. We have played some fantastic football and met some really nice people throughout the League and to be where we are is great for the club and the community and to be on the verge of back-to-back promotions is just amazing for the whole club.
“I’m looking forward to Saturday as it’s another tough away game against Phoenix but the extra incentive for us is that if we win on Saturday, we are promoted to the Southern Counties East Football League Premier.”
