The next six games are crucial and we will need to be focused to stay in touch, says Phoenix Sports boss Paul Bryon
PHOENIX SPORTS manager Paul Bryon says his side face a crucial six games to grab a play-off place in the Isthmian League South East Division at the end of the season.
The club are currently in ninth-place in the table with 28 points from 19 games and went down to a 1-0 defeat at fifth-placed side Sevenoaks Town last weekend, with Ryan Hayes – who is on a dual-registration deal with Vanarama National League South side Dartford – scoring the winner from the penalty spot with 13 minutes of the game remaining.
Phoenix Sports are only a couple of points adrift of Micky Collins’ side, who occupy the final play-off berth and there are many clubs vying for the four play-off spots come the end of the season.
“It’s been a busy time in a league where there are just six points between fifth and 15th. The next six games are crucial and we will need to be focused to stay in touch,” said Bryon.
“I was disappointed with us during the second half against Sevenoaks. We came in at the break 0-0 and on the back of three wins and those wins have seen us stronger in the second half, so I felt confident.
“We did not perform to our ability and the result tells us that.
“It’s the first league game this season where we have not scored in.”
Phoenix Sports hold home advantage over a Three Bridges side that are one of three club’s that could fall down the trap door.
East Grinstead Town are rooted to the foot of the table with six points (all draws) from 18 games and Ramsgate and Three Bridges follow on 11 points each.
“We now have Three Bridges tomorrow and everyone knows in this league there are no easy games,” added Bryon.
“This is said a lot but I really believe it so we will have to be strong and intelligent to get something out of it.
“We’ve had a good season so far with the youngsters, four from the under 23s have played for us and two are now with us regularly. We have also had an under 18 play for us and is also with us regularly now, so we are doing a god job in the younger age groups and this is critical to us being at this level.”
