We have another massive test against Cray Valley, says Phoenix Sports boss Paul Bryon
PHOENIX SPORTS manager Paul Bryon says his side face a massive test at Cray Valley tomorrow.
Bryon’s side are in ninth-place in the Isthmian League South East Division table with 34 points from their 23 league outings and are seven points adrift of the play-off zone.
Whitehawk came away from the Mayplace Ground with a 2-0 win last Saturday, courtesy of David Martin and Ahmed Abdulla scoring for the third-placed side in the final five minutes.
“I was very disappointed with the result on Saturday, especially the way we conceded the first goal, which completely frustrated me,” said Bryon.
“Up until 85 minutes we were fairly comfortable. Whitehawk are a good side with very good players, so you know they will have a lot of the ball. We knew that and managed it well.
“To concede in the 85th minute from our attacking set-piece is really frustrating, especially when you have the correct numbers back. Let’s hope we have learnt from that.
“We were on the back of two good wins and thought we were worthy of a point at least.”
Kevin Watson’s Millers go into the game unbeaten in five games and sitting in fourth-place in the pecking order with 45 points from their 24 league outings
“We have another massive test for us against Cray Valley tomorrow,” said Bryon.
“We were called off in the week at East Grinstead, which is maybe a god send as we would have played seven games by the end of February if it was played.
“Cray Valley are on a good run, I think it’s 16 goals in four goals for them, so we will have to be defensively sound and organised to get anything from the game.
“This will be our third game against them this season as we played them in the Velocity Trophy as well as at our place in the league.
“We will have no excuses as we have all a fit squad except for Zak Bryon, who broke his leg in November but he is back jogging now and we hope to see his return next month sometime.
“We will go there almost at our best and give it our all and see what happens.
“It’s very close all over the table. I have said this all season that a bad run puts you below 12th place and a good run puts you in the play-offs.
“We have 15 games to go still and 45 points to play for so anything can happen.”
