Phoenix Sports boss Steve O'Boyle: I’m hoping the second half of the season we can improve more and try and finish as high as possible

Friday 27th November 2015

PHOENIX SPORTS manager Steve O’Boyle says he is feeling proud of his team at the halfway point of their debut Ryman League campaign.

The Barnehurst based club are sitting in the top nine in the Ryman League Division One North, having collected 10 wins, four draws and nine defeats.

O’Boyle takes his side to play Harlow Town tomorrow, a side that are in underachieving in thirteenth-place in the table on 29 points from 17 games.

Phoenix Sports travel to Essex only six points adrift of the play-off places, fifth-place currently being occupied by Bury Town, while they are a safe 21 points clear of the relegation zone.

“We have a really tough game on Saturday away to Harlow,” said O’Boyle.

“They are one of the favourites for promotion to the Ryman Prem, especially after missing out last season with 101 points.

“They have some really good players and have goals in their team.

“We go into the game with a strong squad, which is full of confidence after winning our last two away games against two very good teams.

“We will need to defend well tomorrow and compete with them all over the pitch to get a result.”

At the start of the season, O’Boyle said that he’d be satisfied finishing out of the relegation zone, but the club are doing well.

O’Boyle said: “We have had a really good start to the season. We are halfway through our games now.

“We were one of the favourites for relegation this season. I don’t think this will be the case unless we have a massive dip in form and don’t pick up too many more points.

“We are currently ninth in the league, which I’m really proud of.  It’s a long season and you do play a lot of games but I’m hoping the second half of the season we can improve more and try and finish as high as possible.”
