We will have to play even better than we did in the last round to knock AFC Hornchurch out of The FA Cup, says Phoenix Sports boss Steve O'Boyle

Friday 25th September 2015

PHOENIX SPORTS manager Steve O’Boyle says playing AFC Hornchurch in The FA Cup Second Qualifying Round tomorrow is a massive game for the club.

Phoenix Sports have never reached this stage of the competition before – in fact the Barneshurst-based outfit have only played in The FA Cup for two seasons.

They defeated Guernsey at the second attempt and stunned Ryman Premier League side Lewes in the last round and play their Ryman League Division One North rivals tomorrow.

The Urchins are in the top-five in the table on 20 points from 10 games, while Phoenix Sports sit in thirteenth-place with 14 points from 10 games, which is their inaugural campaign at this level.

O’Boyle said: “Massive game against the team which are favourites for the Ryman League Division One North title.

“They are a very good team with good players all over the park.

“It’s going to be really tough to get a result but it’s The FA Cup, a one off.  We are at home and will have to play even better than we did in the last round.

“With a bit of luck you never know.  I’m really looking forward to the game and so should everyone at the club.

“We conceded 10 goals in two games so it was nice to get a clean sheet and a run at Redbridge on Tuesday night.”
