Pennock "delighted" with triple signing

Tuesday 20th June 2006
Welling United have today unveiled three new signings as manager Adrian Pennock continues to plan for their forthcoming Nationwide Conference South campaign.

The Wings have signed defender Joe Vines and midfielder Des Boateng from their Ryman Premier League neighbours Bromley, whilst goalkeeper Paul Hyde joins from Dover Athletic as understudy to Jamie Turner and will also take over goalkeeping coaching duties.

Pennock told www.wellingunited.com: "I'm delighted to bring all three players to the club.

"I've watched Joe Vines a number of times, he is strong in the air and a brave defender.

"Des Boateng will add some steel to the midfield while Paul Hyde will provide plenty of experience.

"I'm still talking to other players and am hopeful of more signings before we start our pre-season matches."

Skipper Chris Moore, midfielders Daniel Moore and Keith Rowland have also committed their futures to Park View Road for next season while talks are ongoing with other members of last season's squad who were out of contract.

Boateng is a midfield player with an excellent work rate, starting 49 times for  Bromley last season. He's also had spells at Carshalton Athletic, Metropolitan Police, St Leonards, Walton & Hersham, Croydon, Crawley Town, Yeading and  Woking.

Vines is a committed defender with good aerial ability. He won all three Player of the Year awards in his first season at Bromley but left to join Lewes in early 2004. There he played a key role in helping them gain promotion from the Ryman League Division One South to the newly-created Nationwide Conference South. Joe has had spells at Crawley Town, Cray Wanderers, Lewes and, AFC Wimbledon.

Hyde is a well-known goalkeeper in the non-league game and is an experienced goalkeeper and qualified coach.

The blonde haired goalkeeper has played for many league clubs including Leyton Orient and Leicester City. During his spell with Wycombe Wanderers he made over 200 appearances, helping the Chairboys win the Conference in 1993. More recently Paul has won numerous 'Player of the Year' awards whilst at Dover Athletic, and was appointed Clive Walker's assistant in June 2002.
