Our main target is a top four finish, says Kent Football United boss Sam MacNeil
They are in ninth-place in the Kent Invicta League table with a playing record of six wins and three draws from 12 league games.
MacNeil’s side are ten points adrift of fourth-placed side Orpington, but they do have the added bonus of having four games in hand on Simon Glover’s side.
“The season so far has been an interesting one for the club, with a vast improvement on last season,” said MacNeil.
“We have put ourselves in a decent position in the league, in touching distance of the top three with the rain interrupted weather affecting any fluidity to our performances.”
Kent Football Untied actually took to the field last Saturday, losing 2-1 to Bridon Ropes in the London Senior Trophy Quarter-Finals. The game was played on the 3G pitch at the Meridian Sports & Social Club in Charlton.
MacNeil said: “We were poor and so crashed out and it is vital that the next two league games against Eltham Palace and Rusthall that we take six points and get our season back on track.”
Eltham Palace lie second-from-bottom in the table ahead of the Saturday’s scheduled clash at Oxford Road, having collected two wins and a draw from their fifteen league games, while Rusthall are in seventh-place.
MacNeil said: “The league is our main focus and our main target as I have said before is FA Cup qualification, which is a top four finish in step six.
“I am into my second season now and consolidation was the target last year, which we did and this is the season was about progress.
“I think people will agree the side we have this season is a lot stronger than last and we feel a top four position is realistic.”
“To describe our season in one word I would say inconsistent. On our day we will beat anyone and then we will put in a poor performance where our naivety as a young side shows.
“If we can find that constant level of top performance then I am certain this group of players will finish in the top four and achieve the clubs aspirations of FA Cup football next season.”
Kent Football United will field a side in the NRG Gyms Kent County Under 21 Development League next season, which will increase in size next season.
MacNeil said: “Our first team has a lot of good, young players working hard to try and get minutes which is difficult so an under 21 side is an obvious step to provide a stepping stone for younger players to develop into first team regulars and also gives the opportunity for first team players to drop and gain match fitness etc.
“We are developing off the pitch too with us introducing an under 21 side next season, which will go into the NRG Development League, which is being run by the Kent County League.
“We are now taking applications for the under 21 team manager and coaches positions to work very closely with the first team.”
