Our main objective is to win the league, says Greenwich Borough assistant Paul Blade

GREENWICH BOROUGH assistant manager Paul Blade says fringe players of the squad will be used for Sunday’s Kent Senior Trophy tie against West Wickham.

The Dartford-based club reached The FA Cup Fourth Qualifying Round for the first time in their history after beating Ryman League Division One South side Redhill courtesy of Billy Bennett’s goal on the stroke of half-time on Sunday.

Their reward is a trip to Vanarama Conference North side Worcester City (at Kidderminster Harriers) on Sunday, 26 October 2014 (3pm).

Worcester City needed a replay to see of their league rivals Leamington 2-0 last night.

Greenwich Borough came away from Lingfield with a 6-2 victory last night in the League Cup Preliminary Round to make it a perfect ten wins out of ten – a club record.

They welcome Southern Amateur League side West Wickham to Princes Park on Sunday in the Kent Senior Trophy Sponsored by Darenth Print & Design First Round.

“We’ve got a big squad. It gives us an opportunity for some of the boys to get 90 minutes under their belt which is an ideal scenario for us,” said Blade.

“It also gives a few of the boys a rest. They’ve played games and it’s taken a little bit out of them as well.

“It’s not about 11 players’, it’s about 18, 19, 20 players because everyone’s going to be used.”

Greenwich Borough have slipped down to 12th place in the Southern Counties East Football League table with 13 points from seven games.

Ian Jenkins’ side have games in hand on all of their nineteen rivals and are 21 points adrift of league leaders Erith & Belvedere with six games in hand on Matt Longhurst’s side.

Greenwich Borough’s next home game is at home to Canterbury City on 1 November.

“We’ve got to concentrate on the league,” added Blade.

“We’re still got cup matches and we are behind in the league games.  That’s our main objective as always, is to win the league.

“The FA Cup is good for the players, good for the team, good for the club. It gives the club a platform to work from so hopefully we’ll just keep winning games.

“We know that we’ve got to deal with that (fixture back-log). Games will come thick and fast but there’s not much we can do.  We can only play the games that are put in front of us, no matter who they are, where they are. We’ll turn up and put the same effort and put the same performance in and hopefully same results.”
