Not many clubs will look forward to travelling to Herne Bay, says boss Sam Denly

HERNE BAY manager Sam Denly says he felt frustrated with his side’s 3-3 draw down at Worthing on Wednesday night.

The Bay fought back from being 3-0 down to claim a point on the Sussex coast thanks to Stuart King’s hat-trick.

They are now in eleventh-place in the Ryman League Division One South table with 24 points from 18 games, six points adrift of fifth-placed Merstham.

“Our last game proved to be another frustrating night on the road,” admitted Denly.

“After being 3-0 down I was very proud of the players to show such character and discipline to get back into the game and go home with a point on the board.

“Not a lot of positives to came out of the first half apart from the performances of Jack Delo in goal and Jordan Casey.

“It’s becoming frustrating playing so inconsistently, not just from one week to the next but one half to the next and it’s something that we need to address.

“But I got the response I wanted on Wednesday night and the lads showed the character we have within the squad.

“For a neutral the game was a classic and had everything and quite conceivably could’ve finished 7-7!

“Stuart King was excellent again for us and is proving why he is and has been arguably the best striker in the league for some time now.”

Herne Bay welcome tenth-placed Tooting & Mitcham United to Winch’s Field tomorrow, where a win will take them over the south-west Londoners.

“We will be looking to take that second half performance into Saturday when we host Tooting & Mitcham,” said Denly.

“Tooting & Mitcham are going well and are a decent side.  We have already played them this year and lost 1-0 away from home.

“We know we need to be at our best to get something out of the game but we have played good stuff at Winch’s Field this season and not many clubs will look forward to traveling to us.

“Hopefully we can get the supporters in who have been excellent this season and put in a performance for them as we continue to build and look to keep adding points to the board.”
