Nine clubs battle it out to reach the promised land
Nine clubs have a very good chance of winning promotion from Ryman League Division One at the end of the season, writes Stephen McCartney.
Last season Bromley were promoted - along with AFC Wimbledon and Walton & Hersham - via the play-offs.
AFC Wimbledon picked up 97 points from their 42 league games and Walton & Hersham finished nine points adrift of the South West Londoners.
The play-off places were filled by Horsham (78 points), Bromley (75), Metropolitan Police (74) and Cray Wanderers (73).
But Leatherhead, who finished with the same amount of points as Ian Jenkins’ side missed out - as did Tooting & Mitcham who collected 69.
Before you compare this season’s league table with last, please remember clubs are playing two more games this time around.
Jim Ward’s Ramsgate have taken the league by storm, having won promotion from the Kent League last season, and are currently enjoying a 16 match unbeaten run in the league and have a five point lead at the top.
The Thanet side, however, have collected 25 points from their 12 matches they’ve played since the turn of the year.
Although they’ve played two games more than the Rams, fifth placed side Metropolitan Police have picked up the most points since the beginning of January, having collected 31 points.
Kingstonian, meanwhile, who were struggling at the wrong end of the table earlier in the season, have collected 28 points from their last thirteen outings.
Our other Kent sides, Tonbridge Angels will be hoping to hit much better form during their final 12 outings, as they’ve picked up 15 points from their last eleven games.
Cray Wanderers’ - who lost their play-off semi-final at Horsham in extra time at the end of last season, have picked up in their last five games, bagging four wins and a draw, but the bigger picture sees them with 21 points from 13 games.
Are tenth placed side Dover Athletic good enough to mount a charge towards the play-offs, having picked up just ten points from their last eleven matches?
