Newport County's offer for Adam Birchall was an insult, says Dover Athletic chairman Jim Parmenter

ADAM BIRCHALL has today asked Dover Athletic to place him on the transfer list - but chairman Jim Parmenter has rejected the request, writes Justin Allen.

The striker, 26, always expressed his desire to return to the Football League and last week Dover Athletic received a written offer from Blue Square Premier club Newport County.

Mr Parmenter has always promised to discuss with Adam any bids from League clubs or top Conference outfits as long as the club received a satisfactory bid.

But, as yet, that has not happened - and the Newport bid was derisory.

The Whites chairman told www.doverathletic.com : "Newport County's bid was an insult not just to the club but to Adam too. I understand Adam's ambition and it's no secret - but he is under contract for two more seasons.

"We don't believe putting him on the transfer list is the right thing to do."

Former Arsenal and Barnet striker Birchall said: "I want to reiterate that all the time I am a Dover player, I will give 100 per cent. It's hard not to when the club has such brilliant fans, who have given me magnificent support.

“My dream is to play in the Football League again and hope supporters can understand. If no-one wants me, then rest assured I will be aiming to have another great season here."
