Moore looking forward to big Stones showdown
SAMMY MOORE paid tribute to goalscoring hero Shaun Welford after the big man finally clinched Dover Athletic's 2-1 win at Horsham, writes Justin Allen.
The Whites midfield ace laid on the pass for Shaun to smash home an unstoppable 18-yard stunner - after missing a stack of easier chances.
Welford hit the woodwork THREE times and fluffed a one-on-one - but his patience and hard work finally paid off.
Moore, speaking to www.doverathletic.com, said: "Shaun deserved his goal - he has worked his socks off for the team and been one of our best players.
"I bet he can't believe that the most difficult chance he had ended in a goal, while he missed ones that he would back himself to put away.
"But he does a lot of hard work up front and puts in 100 per cent, he's a great example to everyone.
"Horsham were a strong side and we have to win against those sort of teams away from home if we're to get promoted."
Moore enjoyed his best game in a Dover shirt against Tooting & Mitcham United on Tuesday night - and was thrilled to take his goals tally for the season to seven goals, making him Whites' second top scorer.
He said: "I set myself a target of getting 15 goals and am halfway there. It's not about me, though, it's about the team - but if I can get 15 goals then that will be good for the team.
"We're 17 points clear at the top - but no way are we getting carried away about that. We want to extend the lead to 20 points, then 23 points - we just want to keep winning.
"That's what we aim to do every week. Nothing is won in December. Our focus is now on Maidstone - and we can't wait for that game, should be a good crowd and great atmosphere.
"We got nearly 3,000 here for the Tooting game - and it just shows how big this club can be. I hope we can get a huge crowd against Maidstone - and that we can put on another show for the supporters."
