Canturk Yanpar steps down as Meridian VP manager: It was the right time to make the change
MERIDIAN VP begin the search for a new manager after Canturk Yanpar resigned from his position tonight.
The struggling Charlton-based club are sitting in the bottom three in the Southern Counties East Football League First Division table and went down to a 2-0 home defeat to Holmesdale yesterday, which was the club’s sixth defeat on the bounce.
Meridian have banked 14 points (four wins and a draw) from their 19 league games and have Phoenix Sports Reserves (13 points from 17 games) and Snodland Town (11 points from 16 games) below them in the table.
“Unfortunately, following a poor start to the season with only four wins, leaving the club bottom of the table, it was the right time to make a change,” said Yanpar.
“I’ve spoken with the chairman and stepping down is the best solution as agreed on both parts.
“I wish Meridian good luck for the rest of the season.”
A club statement, which was also posted on Twitter, added: “MVP wish to announce that with immediate effect and by mutual agreement Canturk Yanpar is to step down as manager of the first team.
“The club would like to sincerely thank him for all of is valuable efforts and work he has put in over the time period involved. We wish him all the best.”
The club are next in action when they travel to fellow strugglers Phoenix Sports Reserves on Saturday, 29 December 2018.
Del Oldfield’s side came away from in-form Lewisham Borough with a 2-1 win on Friday night.
