McMahon adds to his attacking options

THAMESMEAD TOWN boss Keith McMahon has today unveiled the signing of strike-pairing Nick Smith and Steve White, writes Kevin White.

Both players were playing Kent League football for Erith & Belvedere last season, with Smith ending the campaign as their leading goalscorer.

“I’m really pleased with how things are going,” an upbeat McMahon told www.thamesmeadtownfc.co.uk.

“These two signings, added to Danny Moore and Peter Smith, (signed from Greenwich Borough) give our squad greater strength.”

White has already appeared in the first two pre-season friendlies for Thamesmead, who are preparing for life in Ryman League Division One North.

Despite losing 3-0 to Welling United and 6-0 to Fisher Athletic, both sides who play two division higher, in Blue Square South, it has given McMahon plenty of opportunity to test trailisits and youth players against quality opposition.

“I’ve tried out eight new players in the first two games and despite the results, I’ve been impressed with the effort shown, particularly in the first half of both matches,” said McMahon.

As the pre-season fixtures progress, McMahon aims is to be choosing his final first-team squad with a settled formation.

They continue their pre-season preparations with two home games this week against Cray Wanderers (Tuesday) and Slade Green (Thursday). Both games, at Bayliss Avenue, kick-off at 7:45pm.
