McKimm: I have the heart and desire to be Margate's next boss
STEVE McKIMM thanked former Margate player-manager Robin Trott for giving him an opportunity to gain some coaching experience this season.
Player/coach McKimm took charge of the club’s last two Ryman Premier League games of the season after Trott parted company with the Hartsdown Park outfit earlier in the month.
And yesterday’s 1-0 final game win at Harrow Borough has whetted the appetite to be in the hot-seat, either at Hartsdown Park, or another club, in the future.
“I’ve got to give Robin a huge pat on the back for giving me the opportunity to be coach/assistant manager to start with, because without him giving me the opportunity, I wouldn’t be doing this now,” McKimm told www.margate-fc.com.
“I have enjoyed it. I did it at Gravesend for three games and loved it. I was a lot younger then.
“I still feel I’ve got another year or two left in me playing-wise, and I’d love to be a manager. I love the coaching side of it and I’m not frightened to tell people what I think - no matter who they are.
McKimm added: “Managing is something I want to do in the future. If it’s not now, it’ll be some other club somewhere down the line in a couple of years or so.”
And speaking about the current Margate vacancy, McKimm added: “I know there are other people more experienced than me, but having more experience doesn’t always count for a lot because if you’ve got heart and desire that counts for even more and that’s something I’ve got in abundance.”
