McKimm hails Margate's character
Margate put their midweek FA Trophy disappointment behind them to record a valuable win over Harrow Borough yesterday.
The Blues have been quietly building a robustness about them.
The 2-1 win represented a fourth undefeated league game in succession - a season’s best so far - and a record of one defeat in eight games across all competitions.
And this with a squad that has been missing key personnel at times.
Margate climbed up to seventh place in the Ryman Premier League table following the win, courtesy of goals from Jay Saunders and player-coach, Steve McKimm.
Reflecting on their performance, and particularly Margate’s response when losing the lead so soon after taking it, McKimm was pleased with the way his team-mates responded.
“The boys don’t give up, that’s the main thing,” he told www.margate-fc.com.
“If you’re down in the dumps, the bottom line is you’ve got to show character.
“I think we’ve got players here that will show character and will keep going and going and going and they proved it today.”
A crowd of just 369 watched the match and the Thanet club will be looking for a much bigger turnout when Kentish rivals Maidstone United, a side that’s picked up three wins and a draw in their last four league outings, visit Hartsdown Park next Saturday.
McKimm added: “We’ll just keep going out there, giving 110% and trying to win football matches for Margate.
www.kentishfootball.co.uk will be making our first trip of the season to Hartsdown Park next Saturday for the Kentish derby.
