If we can put a good run of games together we could be challenging for the play-off positions, says Margate joint-manager Mike Sandmann
MARGATE joint-manager Mike Sandmann says he wants his side to go on a run, starting with tomorrow’s trip to Leatherhead.
The club are sitting in eleventh-place in the Bostik Premier Division table, having collected 18 points from their 13 games but they travel to Fetcham Grove on a three-match run without a win.
Hosts Leatherhead are second-from-bottom in the table, having collected 10 points from as many games.
Reflecting on their 3-2 home defeat to Burgess Hill Town last weekend, Sandmann said: “We will all be looking for a response away to Leatherhead after last week’s disappointment. As a group we let ourselves down last week and we want to put that right. Our league form has been good up to last week but our home form has just not been good enough and we want to put that right.
“Leatherhead are always a tough side to play and we will need to be at our best to get a result. Both teams know each other well and will whatever they can to come away with three points.
“Our squad is stretched with injuries as it’s well documented and we need to learn and learn quickly.
“We are top half of the table so that is not disastrous at this stage of the season especially with everything we have had thrown at us.
“Of course, we would like to be higher but there is not an expectation on us as a group but we still believe despite the injuries if we can put a good run of games together we could be challenging for the play-off positions. You have to believe that as a group.
“Everyone is beating everyone in this league and we will be hoping to put another run together starting with Saturday,” added Sandmann, whose side are six points adrift of Lewes, who occupy the final play-off berth.
