Everyone at Margate FC is looking forward to putting October behind us, says Margate's Mike Sandmann
MARGATE assistant manager Mike Sandmann says he is looking to change their fortunes in the Bostik Premier, against Staines Town tomorrow.
The club have slipped down to fourteenth-place in the table with 18 points from 13 games, eight points adrift of the play-offs.
“Everyone at Margate FC is looking forward to putting October behind us,” revealed Sandmann.
“We know that results haven’t been good enough, but we are all certainly looking at turning that around and I think the last couple of games we have shown signs of exactly that.
“We are unbeaten in our last three matches which is really important when you have been through a bit of a bad run. Yes, we would have liked to pick up more points and I’m confident this will start to come. In the last couple of matches we have had more creativity and fluidity in our play but at times we have been unable to kill off teams.
“As a group we are addressing the conceding of late goals and will be putting this right.”
Margate were held to a 1-1 draw by Metropolitan Police at Hartsdown Park in midweek, after coming away from Staines Town with 3-0 win in The FA Trophy Second Qualifying Round last weekend.
“On Tuesday night against Met Police I felt we defended extremely well and answered anything they threw at us bar a 35-yard strike,” recalled Sandmann.
“Very rarely do you see one hit so sweet and sometimes as disappointing as it is, you have to give the lad credit. When you’re on a good run of form they don’t go in, but that’s where we are at the moment.
“Staines will be looking at a response from their defeat to us in the Trophy and we will be at our best to make sure we get back to winning ways in the league.
“We have spoken about killing teams off and making sure we are difficult to break down , which have been for the majority of the season.
“We are creating very good chances in most games and with the forward players we have in the group, it’s only a matter of time that they turn these chances into goals.
“The fans have been excellent throughout this frustrating spell and we are all working hard to repay their support by winning football matches.”
