Main left Tonbridge Angels for "stiffer challenges"

Hot-shot Jon Main believes his move to AFC Wimbledon will offer him “stiffer challenges”, writes Stephen McCartney.

The 26-year-old striker moved to the south-west London club at 3pm on Thursday, for an undisclosed transfer fee from Kent side Tonbridge Angels.

Main, who netted a club record of 44 goals last season, netted 20 goals in 23 games so far this season, but has opted to a move to AFC Wimbledon.

The former VCD Athletic and Cray Wanderers striker signed off with a goal in Angels’ 2-2 home draw on Tuesday night, ironically against the Dons.

“The last two years have been the best for me so far in my footballing career but we all must seek stiffer challenges and targets and my time had come to move on,” he said in a statement on www.tonbridgeangels.co.uk.

And the hit-man added: “Thanks to all the staff and the supporters for your backing during the time spent with you.”
