Maidstone United snap up former Ashford United left-back George McLennan
MAIDSTONE UNITED manager Jay Saunders has signed former Ashford United left-back George McLennan, 22.
McLennan won the National League title with Cheltenham Town during the 2015-16 season. He went on to have a brief spell at Sutton United and was most recently with his home-town club Ashford United.
The Stones boss had been aware of the player for some time and invited him in to train with the club. After seeing him this week, McLennan was offered a deal.
“George is someone I was aware of and to be honest I have been really impressed with him over the last couple of seasons,” Saunders told www.maidstoneunited.co.uk.
“He’s a local lad and he had a really good end to the season with Ashford.
“Previously he’s won this league with Cheltenham, so he’s got experience as well and still only 22. For me he ticks a lot of boxes – a good size, a good age and will be a great addition to the squad.”
DOVER ATHLETIC have confirmed that goalkeeper Mitch Walker has agreed a new one-year deal to remain at Crabble.
He is the third player to re-sign after Josh Passley and Kadell Daniel both agreed new terms.
Walker, 26, who signed for the club from Brighton & Hove Albion in May 2012, has made 246 appearances since then and was an ever present in the Vanarama National League last season, playing all 46 games and kept 18 clean sheets.
Chris Kinnear, meanwhile, has signed defender Kevin Lokko, 22, from Stevenage on a two-year deal for an undisclosed transfer fee.
The England C international can operate both at centre-back and left-back, made 12 appearances for Dover while on loan from the League Two club last season.
The former Norwich City, Colchester United and Welling United rock played in 41 National League games for Maidstone United, before joining Stevenage for an undisclosed transfer fee last August.
He then joined Dagenham & Redbridge on loan, making 25 National League appearances, before being recalled by his parent club in February.
EBBSFLEET UNITED manager Daryl McMahon has signed former Stevenage defender Jack King, 32, who featured 32 times for the club in League Two last season.
“Jack can play pretty much anywhere really,” McMahon told www.ebbsfleetunited.co.uk.
“I see him as a footballing centre back and that’s the position he’ll be competing for with us in the coming season.”
