I am delighted to get Alex Brown on board, says Maidstone United boss Jay Saunderes
MAIDSTONE UNITED have confirmed that Alex Brown has put pen to paper on a new deal.
The club clinched the Ryman Premier League title last season and are preparing for life in the rebranded Vanarama National League South.
The 22-year-old former Gillingham midfielder made his debut for the club in December 2012, made 51 appearances for the club last season and scored five times – including a brilliant striker in the 2-1 win over Margate in March.
Manager Jay Saunders told www.maidstoneunited.co.uk: “I am delighted to get Browny on board for next season.
“He’s a player who gives 100% every time and we saw throughout last season the quality he can bring to a game. This is a brilliant bit of business for me!”
Meanwhile, James Rogers, who scooped the supporters’ player-of-the-year award, also agreed terms yesterday and will be at the club’s stadium tomorrow to sign papers.
Saunders has continued his transfer dealings with the arrival of defender Manny Parry, 21, from Grays Athletic.
He began his career with Millwall and Stoke City before moving into the non-league game with loans at Conference clubs Maidenhead United, Nuneaton Town, Weston-super-Mare and Worcester City.
He had been on the club’s watch list for several months – interest that was confirmed when The Stones met Grays Athletic in March and April.
Saunders added: “Manny’s a young lad with lots of potential. He’s not the finished article but has the pace and presence to go far in the game – he was definitely a handful for our front three when we played Grays a few weeks ago.”
