The message is simple to the players, if you want to do something in this league, you have to be consistent, says Lydd Town boss Liam Smith
LYDD TOWN boss Liam Smith says he is feeling excited about tomorrow’s trip to Meridian VP.
Smith’s men defeated Erith & Belvedere 3-0 at home last weekend and as a result have climbed up to fourth-place in the Southern Counties East Football League First Division table, with 22 points from 14 league games, 12 points adrift of league leaders K Sports.
“My thoughts on tomorrow’s game are first of all excitement,” said Smith, whose side have turned the corner since their 1-0 win at Snodland Town on 11 October.
“We had an honest chat with the squad before the Snodland away game and since then we have really turned the corner.
“We have been playing some excellent stuff of late and the lads have responded so well.
“Meridian, who groundshare their ground with Bridon Ropes, has always been a difficult place to go. I have struggled there as a player, a coach and a manager last year but I’m hoping to put that right tomorrow.
“The message is simple to the players, if you want to do something in this league, you have to be consistent.
“I think we can be but it will soon tell in November as we have another set of tough fixtures against opponents that can beat anyone on their day.
“Tony Provan, who is the groundsman at Meridian, has made it an immaculate playing surface up there (below, pictured by Tony Provan on Twitter) so hopefully our passing game will be on show.
“We have been getting decent sized crowds home and away and I just wanted to say thank you to each and every single person that pays money to watch my team play, the lads love it and it showed beating a good Erith & Belvedere side last week, the only side the season to date to stop them scoring and are joint top-scorers in the division.
“Every goal we score the whole team celebrate now and that just shows how good the buzz is at the moment.”
