Lucrative Ramsgate deal prises Gareth Cornhill away from Whitstable Town

WHITSTABLE TOWN boss Peter Nott continues his squad reshaping in the form of signing winger Aaron Robinson from Kent League side Deal Town.

The tricky 25-year-old winger can operate from both flanks and is an excellent crosser of the ball.

“Aaron has quick feet and likes to play in a wide role so he can get at defenders and deliver quality crosses into the box,” Nott told www.whitstabletownfc.co.uk.

“He will help to give us the width in our play that I think we were lacking at times last season.

“He has previously played for Margate in the Ryman Premier and for Ramsgate where he was a member of their Kent League winning team and he is looking forward to meeting up with his new team mates at pre-season training on Saturday.”

The Ryman League Division One South club today confirmed that midfielder Gareth Cornhill has signed for rivals Ramsgate.

Cornhil, who came through to the first team from Whitstable’s under 18’s and has been one of the first names on the team sheet of all of the managers at the club, is a popular figure  with both his fellow players and the supporters (winning numerous man-of-the-match awards), during his time at Belmont Road.

“I received a phone call completely out of the blue from Gareth to tell me that Ramsgate had been in contact with him and made him an offer that he simply could not refuse,” said Nott.

“He told me the offer also included the promise of a job at one of their director’s company and transportation to and from games and training which would reduce his time and travelling costs as he currently relies on public transport.

“We are all obviously very disappointed as Gareth has been a key player with us progressing through the ranks, and was very much in our plans and indeed had already signed Ryman League forms for us this season!”

Nott added: “Nonetheless we would like to thank Gareth for his excellent contribution over the years and wish him well for the future.”
