Lovell scoops managerial award

Friday 02nd January 2009

ASHFORD TOWN manager Steve Lovell has deservedly won the Ryman League Division One South manager of the month away for December, writes Sam Dixon.

The Nuts and Bolts have stormed up the table to fourth after winning their last five games. The run started when they overcame league leaders Kingstonian in late November and have since beaten Leatherhead, Eastbourne Town, Walton Casuals and local rivals Folkestone Invicta at Christmas. In that time Ashford Town have netted 16 times whilst conceding only four.

Ashford Town will be looking to extend their run when they visit Whitstable Town at the KRBS Belmont tomorrow and Lovell knows they must approach the game in the right manner.

“The award is a great recognition of the hard work everyone has put in recently, it’s not just for me – Hugo and the players have been excellent and it’s always nice to win awards,” Lovell told www.ashfordtownfc.co.uk.

“But tomorrow is another tough game and we have to be ready for that. We outplayed them at home earlier in the season so they will be looking for revenge. If we approach it in the right way them I’m sure we can pick up the right result to keep the run going.”

Lovell also reported a clean bill of health after the Folkestone game with Claude Seanla remaining the only absentee. Charlie Glyde returns to the fold after serving a two match ban.
