Lovell resigns as Sittingbourne manager

Tuesday 30th October 2007

Steve Lovell has tonight announced his resignation from Sittingbourne Football Club, and according to the Bourne Park club, is expected to join rivals’ Ashford Town, writes Stephen McCartney.

The SHOCK news broke following Sittingbourne’s 3-1 win at local rivals Chatham Town, whilst Ashford Town beat Whitstable Town, ironically by the same scoreline.

Details at present are still sketchy, but Sittingbourne did issue the following statement on their website.

It said: “Steve is expected to join Ashford Town. We would like to thank Steve for all that he has done with the club and wishes him well wherever he goes.

“An announcement concerning Steve’s replacement will be made shortly.”

Following Tony Dolby and Mike Rutherford’s departure from Ryman Premier League club Tonbridge Angels on Monday night, Lovell’s shock move means Sittingbourne are now the FIFTH Kent club with, or searching for a new manager - and we’re not even in November yet!

Welshman Lovell leaves Sittingbourne sitting in fifth place in the Ryman League Division One South table with seven wins and a draw from their opening 12 games - just five points off top spot.

Ashford Town, meanwhile, have climbed up to ninth place in the table, following their first home win of the season, which leaves them with five wins and three draws from their 12 games.
