Lovell: I know what to expect from Boreham Wood tonight (EXCLUSIVE)
As his side were without a game at the weekend, Sittingbourne manager Steve Lovell made the trip to Broadfield Stadium to witness tonight’s opponents Boreham Wood cause another shock, knocking full-time Nationwide Conference strugglers Crawley Town out of the FA Trophy, writes Stephen McCartney.
However, that was not just a one-off freak result as the Southern League Division One East leaders eliminated Liam Daish’s Gravesend & Northfleet in the previous round.
Having watched Wood’s 2-0 win, Lovell knows what to expect at Meadow Park tonight.
“They’re a good side, top of the league, have only lost two games in the league and obviously it’s going to be a tough game,” he predicted.
“Well, I went to watch them play Crawley on Saturday. Hopefully I picked up a few tips from the way they play and the way we’ll play against them.”
His side may be fifteenth in the table but the Welshman hasn’t ruled out sneaking up the table in their last 15 games and joining Dartford and/or Chatham Town in the end of season play-offs.
“Our form is very good, we’ve only lost one in seven so it’s important for us to try and keep it going really.
“If we keep performances going we will climb up. There’s only eight points from us and the play-off’s so if we have a decent run then we can catch them and aim for the play-off’s.”
Lovell will be without Paul Ainsworth (virus) and Danny Lawson (ankle) is struggling and will be going for a scan. Meanwhile, Dan Edwards (cartlidge) has been playing a few reserve team games recently to regain his fitness.
Lovell takes his side to basement boys Potters Bar Town on Saturday - but even that game won’t be easy.
“They’ve had a few decent results recently so again we’ll approach it the same way and get maximum points out of the game,” he said.
