Although I've had Storrington watched, I prefer to concentrate on what we can do to improve, says Lordswood boss Neil Hunter

LORDSWOOD manager Neil Hunter says his young side has confidence going into tomorrow’s FA Vase First Qualifying Round home tie against Storrington.

Lordswood sealed a vital 1-0 win over Welling Town in a relegation six-pointer last weekend, courtesy of Kyle McDowell’s 60th minute winner, a result that leaves Kevin Oakes’ side rooted to the foot of the Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division table.

Lordswood are now fourth-from-bottom following their first league win of the season and sit on four points from five games, with the Boots on two points from four games.

“Our last game at Welling Town wasn’t a pretty affair for various reasons but it was a massive result for us and that truly has been coming over the previous weeks,” said Hunter.

“The work-rate and organisation was very good.  We take each game at a time and I’m sure my young squad will go into the Vase game with confidence.

“We’ve had two really good training sessions and my management team are second to none and are really working their socks off and this is showing on the pitch as these lads really work hard for each other.”

Storrington sit second-from-bottom in the Southern Combination Division One table, with four points from seven games and as Lordswood play one level higher, the Kent side go into the game as favourites.

“What we know about Storrington is they’ve had a similar start to the season as us and they also won their first game of the season last weekend,” said Hunter.

“Although I’ve had them watched, I prefer to concentrate on what we can do to improve.”

FA Vase ties will go straight into a penalty shoot-out if scores are level after 90 minutes in all rounds bar the Wembley Final.

Lordswood were dumped out of The FA Cup by losing in this method after coming back from 2-0 down to level 2-2 after extra time in their Extra Preliminary Round tie at Knaphill.

“As for penalties, we went out of The FA Cup on penalties, so we’ve had a little dabble already,” added Hunter.
