Playing a FA Cup tie as my first competitive game in charge isn’t ideal and would have preferred to start the league games before the FA Cup, says Lordswood boss Richard Styles

LORDSWOOD newly-appointed manager Richard Styles takes charge of the club for the first time in Saturday’s FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round opener.

Styles, a former Lordswood player, takes his new side to Peacehaven & Telscombe, who were relegated from the Ryman League Division One South last season and are under a new manager in Mark Shutt.

“The game on Saturday will be an exciting one. We are going there to win,” said Styles.

“Pre-season has gone very well with a lot of high standard players showing interest and trialing.  The squad has been whittled down weekly and we now are in a position of having a very competitive squad at my disposal.

“Playing a FA Cup tie as my first competitive game in charge isn’t ideal and would have preferred to start the league games before the FA Cup but it is what it is and we’re up to the challenge.

“The game is a massive one for the club, the opposition are in a similar position to us in that they have a new manager and a new squad.

“We have no injury worries and have a fully fit squad to choose from, plenty of players will be making their debuts for the club.

“Our aspirations for the season are to reach as high league position as possible, preferably in the top six.  Last season the club (managed by James Collins) performed very well finishing fourth in the league.

“I want a good run in the FA Vase like I experienced as a player and reach as far in the FA Cup as possible.”
