Lewisham Borough chairman Lance Roberts: On the mini-bus on the way to Lydd the boys got to know each other and team captain Cairo Duhaney demonstrated his leadership qualities by embracing the newcomers and welcoming them to the team
LEWISHAM BOROUGH chairman Lance Roberts says it has been a difficult week for the club.
The club lost the services of their manager Justin Fevrier after controversially sacking him on Monday 11 November.
Fevrier has swiftly found a new club and has been appointed Martin Dynan’s assistant manager at Isthmian League South Central side South Park.
Lewisham Borough went down to Lydd Town yesterday and came away with an impressive 5-2 win, which keeps them in seventh-place in the Sea Pioneer Southern Counties East Football League First Division table with 21 points from 12 games.
Managerless Lewisham Borough are only seven points adrift of new leaders Holmesdale, while Liam Smith’s Lydd Town are now in the bottom three with 11 points from 13 games.
“A new era for the Borough and the expectation that the club would struggle to put out a team was correct,” Roberts told the club website.
“On the morning of Friday 15th November, Borough had only six players available from the squad that had started the season.
“By the Saturday morning, we had managed to sign another six players, which enabled us to field a team.
“On the mini-bus on the way to Lydd the boys got to know each other and team captain Cairo Duhaney demonstrated his leadership qualities by embracing the newcomers and welcoming them to the team.
“Currently without a manger Borough had to call upon the services of committee members to take the game.”
On the current managerial situation, Lewisham Borough have not stated who will be in charge for Friday’s trip to Meridian VP in the London Senior Trophy Second Round.
“After a difficult week the club would like to thank the players and staff that have stayed on and represented the club in such a pleasing manner on Saturday,” added Roberts.
“We would like to place on record our immense gratitude to the staff and players that are no longer with us but were successful in gaining a healthy points total at the start of the season.
“We wish all of you every success in your football journey.”
