Quartet look forward to showcasing grassroots football on Kent County League Day where spectators can watch the action with mud on their shoes
FOUR Kent County League Premier Division clubs are looking forward to showcasing grassroots football on Saturday as part of an initiative from the League to attract larger attendances to the eleventh-tier.
Kings Hill and Aylesford have been chosen to host games on Kent County League Day.
Kings Hill are currently sitting in sixth-place in the NRG Gyms Kent County League Premier Division table, having collected 24 points (seven wins, three draws and five defeats) from their 15 league games and they host struggling Canterbury City at Beacon Avenue at two o’clock.
“We at Kings Hill are really looking forward to being part of the Kent County League Day, said manager Patrick Lee in a statement on the League website.
“It’s what local football is all about – commitment, teamwork and spirit.
“As a manager, I am excited to be able to have the opportunity for our players to showcase the standards of our club and we are delighted to be able to represent the League.”
Canterbury City accepted voluntary relegation from the tenth-tier Southern Counties East Football League First Division at the end of last season, due to ground issues after leaving Margate's Hartsdown Park and are back playing in the City at Thanington Recreation Ground.
Canterbury City are struggling and are second-from-bottom in the 19 club division, having picked up nine points (two wins, three draws) from their 15 league outings and are on their second manager this season.
Canterbury City manager, Mark Towse said: “We at Canterbury City look forward to being part of the Kent County League Day.
“While football fans could go elsewhere and watch a game standing on tiptoes 10 rows back or sitting up in the gods squinting to see what’s happening, with games in the Kent County League we hope everyone will enjoy the game from close to the action, with mud on your shoes, in many cases.
“Proper lifelong fans of local football to chat to and find out interesting facts about our club’s, true grassroots football at its best.”
Aylesford, meanwhile, lock horns with Hawkinge Town at 17:30 at Forstal Road.
Aylesford sit in fifth-place in the Premier Division table, having picked up 26 points (eight wins, two draws and seven defeats) from their 17 games.
Hawkinge Town, meanwhile, are in fourth-place, having picked up 27 points (nine wins and four defeats) from their 13 league outings.
Aylesford, who play on a floodlit 3G pitch, will be charging spectators £5 to watch the fixture.
Aylesford’s James Fuller told Andrew Gidley of the Kent County League: “We are delighted to be taking part in this League initiative.
“This enables us to showcase not only our playing abilities, but also the great facilities available at our ground.
“The club have a wide range of teams and continues to strive upwards in the non-league pyramid.
“We hope we many people join us at the ground, for what should be a wonderful event and we thank the Kent County League for inviting us to be part of it.”
Hawkinge Town manager Andrew Crush added: “We are looking forward to being involved in the Kent County League Day with a game that promises to be a cracker.
“Hopefully we can get a big crowd with home support, some ground hoppers and some good travelling fans to really show what the Kent County League is all about.
“My team and I have really embraced being chosen to be involved and aim to really showcase how good teams in this League can be.”
The Kent County League were planning to have a third game but Snodland Town’s first team are playing a FA Vase Second Round tie at home to Guernsey, kicking off at the earlier time of one o’clock.
“Initially the Kent County League had hoped to arrange three game, the first was to be at 11am at Snodland Town. Unfortunately, Snodland Town Reserves can no longer take part due to their first team being drawn at home in the FA Vase and Guernsey insisting on a 1pm kick off for the fixture,” explained the League.
“We would like to place on record for Snodland Town Reserves for their efforts in trying to move the FA Vase fixture to 3pm, which would have enabled them to still be part of the day. And good luck to their first team too!
“All at the Kent County Football League committee hope you will join us at one or both matches.”
Falconwood sit at the summit with 35 points (11 wins, two draws and one defeat) from their 14 games.
Long Lane (29 points from 14 games), Minster (28 points from 13 games), Hawkinge Town, Aylesford and Kings Hill make up the top six.
With 19 clubs this season, the League have decided to relegate five sides at the end of the season, with Stansfeld (13 points from 12 games), Bexley (13 points from 13 games), Meridian VP (12 points from 13 games), Canterbury City and Fleetdown United (two points from 13 games) in relegation trouble.
