KENNINGTON coach Ollie Finch says the club will have a good following when they travel to Surrey to make their FA Vase debut tomorrow.

 

The Ashford-based outfit travel to Chipstead to play Epsom & Ewell in the First Qualifying Round.

Kennington are in fifth-place in the Southern Counties East Football League First Division table, having started with a 2-1 defeat at FC Elmstead, before beating Lewisham Borough (6-2) and Rochester United (5-1) before being held to a 2-2 draw at home to Greenways on Bank Holiday Monday.

Epsom & Ewell, meanwhile, sit in sixth-place in the Combined Counties League First Division table, having collected seven points from their opening five games.

Both sides therefore play at the same level of football and Finch is looking forward to the historic game.

“This weekend marks a huge moment in the clubs history. Everyone involved in the club is extremely proud and excited for this opportunity,” said Finch.

“This season we have brought together a squad we believe to challenge not only for promotion but for the title.

“The start to the season has been a good test for the boys and thrown up areas we need to improve upon.

“Last weekend was an example of our mixed start to the campaign.  We controlled the game for 90 minutes and looked dangerous every time we came forward, coming away 5-1 winners.

“On Monday, we didn’t click as a unit and we looked tired from Saturday. Greenways stuck to a plan and got a well-deserved point.

“This week all our attention has turned to The FA Vase.  We have done our homework and trained hard. It’s a nice distraction from the league and we would love to advance in to the next round.

“The squad is fully fit and we will have to make some hard decisions about who is going to miss out.

“We hope to bring a good following with us, who can share and enjoy the clubs big day!”
