There’s pressure and expectation on us this year to do well and to in with a chance of promotion and so we should have, says Kennington boss Dan Scorer
KENNINGTON manager Dan Scorer says there’s pressure on his side to win promotion from the Southern Counties East Football League First Division at the end of the season.
The Ton pulled off their greatest day in their 120-year history yesterday by beating Crowborough Athletic 4-2 at Homelands Stadium to book a home tie against Newhaven in The Buildbase FA Vase Second Round on Saturday 2 November 2019.
Kennington sit in the top eight in the table with 14 points from eight games and are eight points adrift of leaders FC Elmstead and three points adrift of fourth-placed side Rusthall.
The top four sides will win promotion to the Premier Division next season and many club’s are chasing the big prize.
“There’s pressure and expectation on us this year to do well and to in with a chance of promotion and so we should have,” said Scorer.
“We should have that pressure on ourselves and that pressure comes from within. It’s not from anyone else outside.
“It’s slightly disappointing the fact that we’re eighth at this point in the season because I thought we’d be a bit higher up but with games in hand we have the potential to be in the top four.”
Kennington host Rochester United in the Kent Senior Trophy First Round on Saturday.
The Spartans are in third-place in the First Division table with 19 points from their 10 league outings.
“We had a bye in the first round with St Peter not being able to field a team, which was a bit disappointing because it gave us a weekend when we didn’t play, which has probably harmed us a little bit in terms of trying to be consistent in what we’re trying to do.
“But we’ve had two midweek games on the bounce so we’re getting to where we want to be again.
“I’m looking forward to giving more players in the group the opportunity to play.”
