Leading the boys out on Sunday in The FA Vase First Round will be a very proud moment for me, says Kennington captain Rob Greenfield

KENNINGTON captain Rob Greenfield says he will be a proud man when he leads the club out in The FA Vase First Round for the first time on Sunday.

The Ashford-based club welcome Crowborough Athletic to Homelands Stadium in what will be their biggest ever game in their long history.

Dan Scorer’s side are in seventh-place in the Southern Counties East Football League First Division table, having collected 14 points from eight games, while Sean Muggeridge’s Crows are in the bottom three in the Premier Division table with two wins from 10 league games.

“Being involved in the clubs biggest game of our history really doesn’t get any better,” said Greenfield.

“Leading the boys out on Sunday will be a very proud moment for me and we will be doing all we can on the pitch to be in the hat for the next round.

“Playing against higher division teams is always tough but it is something that we are really buzzing for.

“Crowborough have had a tough start in the Premier this season but that counts for nothing in these cup competitions as team’s league form always goes out of the window and the best team on the day will progress.

“Sunday is absolutely massive for a club like ours and a big thank you to our chairman Jon Lancaster and everyone else who has helped out in getting the club this far.

“Being captain of this team doesn’t get any better and bigger for Sunday and when we walk out at Homelands everyone should be very proud of how far we have come.

“All the boys will be leaving everything out on the pitch and hoping to put us into the draw for the Second Round.”

Reflecting on Kennington’s league position, the left-back added: “We are currently sitting in seventh-place with three games in hand over leaders FC Elmstead.

“Of course, we would have liked to be higher up the league but it’s still early days and come the end of the season we want to be up there challenging for the title.
