We’ll certainly be putting ourselves in the mix but more importantly, we’ll be challenging for the league title, says Kennington boss Dan Scorer
KENNINGTON manager Dan Scorer says his side will be going for the Southern Counties East Football League First Division title this season.
The Ashford-based club finished in third-place on their debut season at this level, finishing just four points adrift of champions Welling Town, who will be playing Premier Division football for the first time on Saturday.
Scorer takes his side to Hextable on Saturday, to tackle Ennio Gonnella’s FC Elmstead, whom finished in the bottom six last season.
“As a club, it’s the biggest season in our history, so we’ll be doing all we can to get off to a good start,” said Scorer.
“We’ve had a very good pre-season and have trained well this week, so we’re feeling fully prepared to begin the season with a win.
“Elmstead is a tough place to go. We came away with a hard fought point last season, so we’ll be expecting a really difficult test.
“I must admit though I don’t really think it matters who you play on the opening day, emotions of all of the players’ will be high and the side that can manage that best will no doubt come out on top.
“I think the first few months of the season are going to be tougher than any we’ve faced as a club, because of the top four promotion places available, club’s have already made their intentions clear, some with new management teams and others throwing money at it with new signings and big squads.
“We’ve been very fortunate to keep the squad together and have added very well, giving us great depth.
“We’ll certainly be putting ourselves in the mix but more importantly, we’ll be challenging for the league title.”
