I've got a few things wrong but I'll put them right, insists Darts boss Tony Burman

DARTFORD striker Carl Rook says his team-mates have to start replicating their home form on their travels - starting with their trip to basement side Lewes on Saturday, writes Stephen McCartney.

The Kent side are unbeaten at home in all competitions this season but have yet to win away on the road and are only two places above the relegation zone in Blue Square Bet South.

Lewes are rooted to the foot of the table with only 5 points from 12 games - but held play-off chasing Bromley to a 1-1 draw at Hayes Lane in midweek in what was Steve Ibbitson’s last game in charge of team affairs before moving upstairs to become chairman.

Lewes appointed former Croydon Athletic management pairing Tim O’Shea and Neil Smith during the week and they were introduced to the players following their draw at Bromley and take charge for the first time against the Darts.

“Teams usually up their game when they have a new manager,” Rook warned, when speaking to www.kentishfootball.co.uk after scoring one goal in Dartford’s 3-2 home win over Leiston in the FA Cup in midweek.

The 27-year-old former Tonbridge Angels striker added: “In terms of the league, you’re dead right, for some reason, it’s not we haven’t been playing that well, but we haven’t been getting the results away from home.

“We just need to do what we did tonight, just play exactly the same, go out and get the tempo.  Alright, we haven’t got the bigger crowd like we have at home, but go and play the same way.”

With his side welcoming League Two high-flyers Port Vale in the FA Cup First Round on 6 November - the first game at that stage of the Competition for 21 years - manager Tony Burman knows the importance of climbing up the table, especially as his side are just four points above the relegation zone.

“That’s the most important game for us,” Burman insisted, when speaking to www.kentishfootball.co.uk on Tuesday night.

“The FA Cup games are fantastic and you want to stay in the FA Cup for as long as you can but the league is the priority and we haven’t had a good start.

“I’ve got a few things wrong, so I’ll put them right and we’ll concentrate on the league form and concentrate on the game against Lewes.

“It’s a difficult league,” said Burman, who clinched the Ryman Premier League title last season.

“You do get beat, you do come up against good teams and you do come up against good players and we’ve got to match that.

“You don’t win every week six or seven nil.  This league is different.  Unfortunately we haven’t started well but it’s a long season.”
