It will be a great end to a disappointing season to walk away with a trophy, says Mark Goldberg

BROMLEY manager Mark Goldberg says winning the London Senior Cup on Tuesday night will compensate for their disappointing league campaign.

The Ravens completed their Blue Square Bet (Conference) South campaign in fifteenth-place after picking up 48 points (14 wins, 6 draws and 22 defeats), finishing four points clear of the relegated trio.

But it would be fair to say that Goldberg’s side have performed better in cup competitions.

They reached the FA Cup First Round when they went down to a 3-0 defeat to League Two side Fleetwood Town, and defeated Kidderminster Harriers on route to their best ever FA Trophy run, when they reached the third round.

Bromley travel to Metropolitan Police’s Imber Court ground in Surrey to contest the London Senior Cup Final against Ryman Premier Leaguers Kingstonian.

Alan Dowson’s side, who defeated Cray Wanderers in the semi-finals, finished their campaign in eleventh-place in the league below.

Goldberg said: “I’ve seen Kingstonian two or three times this season actually and on their day they’ve got some quality individuals, two of which have played for us before in previous seasons.

“It’s a Cup final. Just like our semi-final against Wingate & Finchley, it doesn’t matter where they are in their league position, whatever league they’re in, on any given day their going to be competing for a trophy and they’re going to give us a very difficult game.

“But it’s a game that we can believe that we can win. As we all feel it will be a great end to a rather disappointing season, all in all to walk away with a trophy.”

Reflecting on their campaign, Goldberg said; “I think it’s fair to say that we’ve had quite a roller-coaster season and although our cup runs gave us something to cheer about during the course of the season, it’s fair to say that all in all we expected to have a better league form than we showed throughout the season as a whole.

“Certainly the last seven or eight games really brought a disappointing end to the season, rather than end the season the way we would have liked to have finished, especially as we have a cup final to look forward to on Tuesday.

“We would very much like to think that we can actually walk away with the London Cup.

“The feeling around the camp and the feeling amongst the fans is that we’ve had a very poor end to the season, so we would like to learn as much as we can from what’s gone on this year again but on reflection it’s fair to say it’s hard for us to say that there’s been more positives than negatives.”
