It's about time we play at home - it feels like we’re the Harlam Globetrotters, says Fisher boss

Friday 04th March 2011
FISHER manager Gary Lisney says the club are looking forward to playing a string of home games this month, writes Stephen McCartney.

The club pay £300 per game to play at Dulwich Hamlet’s Champion Hill Stadium and look forward to welcoming Lordswood tomorrow, Hythe Town on Monday, Tunbridge Wells (14 March) and Deal Town (19 March), before travelling down to Hythe on 26 March.

Looking ahead to the visit of Lordswood, Lisney said: “Lordswood have picked up over recent weeks.  They’re starting to get some decent results so it will be a very, very hard game, but every game has been like that.  There’s no easy games.”

The Fish have sunk to second-from-bottom in the Kent League table, following their disappointing 2-1 home defeat to Holmesdale last Monday, and as a result of losing the basement battle, they now only have Sporting Bengal below them in the table.

Fisher, with five wins and two draws from 20 league games, welcome much-fancied Hythe Town to Champion Hill on Monday evening.

Manager of the Month for February, Scott Porter has guided the club to the First Round of The FA Cup and have one foot in the Kent League Cup Final after beating VCD Athletic in the first leg of the semi-finals, and they are sitting in second place in the table, ready to pounce on leaders Erith Town, especially as they have four games in hand.

Lisney added: “We haven’t played Hythe yet this year, so maybe we’ll do the double over them, who knows?

“I don’t know what they’re like. I haven’t seven seen them play.  There up there for a reason because they’re winning games of football, so we look forward to every game to be frank.

“It’s a big, big learning curve for a lot of my players, some had their first taste last year and most players are regular starters this year but let’s not forget they’re still fairly young and some fairly inexperienced.”

Fisher officials hope for a crowd of at least 100 on Monday night.  Last Monday’s game attracted a disappointing low turn out against Bromley based Holmesdale.

“It’s about time we started playing at home.  It feels like we’re the Harlam Globetrotters to be fair,” added Lisney, who’s side leak plenty of goals during the last 20 minutes, as they did against Holmesdale.

“Whatever revenue we can generate from home games - we haven’t had because we’ve had a run of away games so it’s good for us financially, I’m sure, to have a run of home games. Hopefully we’ll get some people through the turnstiles.

“Even if we’re not winning games we play a fairly attractive attacking style of football and try and get at people and try and win games.

“We’ve not won as many games as we wanted to win, of course, but I do feel the league’s a lot stronger this year as it was last and we are making strides.”
