It's a big season for us with the lights going up within two weeks, says Blair boss Paul Piggott

HOLLANDS & BLAIR manager Paul Piggott says he is pleased with his side’s response after losing top spot in the Kent Invicta League.

The Gillingham-based side have returned to the summit after winning seven and losing two of their nine league games and are two points clear of Lydd Town.

Piggott’s side have scored 31 goals in the league already this season and have scored goals for fun in their last two games against Kent Football United (9-0) and Rusthall (8-3).

“I’m pleased with the team’s response after losing two league games on the spin and I think they’ve done it in style in scoring seventeen goals,” said Piggott.

“We haven’t had the rub of the green with a few decisions latterly, which happens in football and with the few injuries and suspensions the boys have stayed positive and come through a tough few weeks.

“We’re still in the hunt, which is where we want to be.

“We now have one or two players coming back now after their knocks but lack a bit of match fitness, which we will have to work on but it’s good to see some of their faces at training, because we were quite low on numbers for quite a while, but some of the club’s up and coming talent in the reserves have come in and played a part in helping us back to winning ways.

“With a long season still ahead I’m looking to bring in one or maybe two new faces just to help with our push for the title as it’s a big season for us with the floodlights going up in the next couple of weeks.”

The club sealed the league title last season but were denied promotion to the Southern Counties East Football League because they didn’t have floodlights at their Star Meadow ground at Darland Avenue.

Piggott takes his side to Lewisham Borough on Saturday.  The London club are second-from-bottom in the table, losing eight of their ten league games and have collected six points.

“Lewisham is always a tough place to go, but will be one I’m looking for our team to show a better defensive display because we’ve been a bit sloppy with our defending as a team lately and we’ll try and keep our momentum going, but I’m sure they will be trying to put a spanner in the works.”
