It has been a hard year but we'll put it right in 2013 in the league, vows Mark Goldberg
The Ravens climbed out of the relegation zone yesterday following their comphrensive 3-0 win over Tonbridge Angels at Longmead Stadium.
Goldberg says he wants to keep striker Joe Pigott, 19, at Hayes Lane, because his loan spell from Charlton Athletic runs out on Tuesday.
Pigott, who has yet made a first team appearance at The Valley, played a part in Bromley’s first two goals, which were scored by Mike Jones and Aaron Rhule, before thrashing home an excellent third from long range, which nestled into the top far corner.
Pigott has scored four goals during his loan spell at Bromley and Goldberg will be on the phone to his opposite number at The Valley, Chris Powell, hoping to extend the loan spell so the striker can continue his development.
Bromley leapfrogged over Dorchester Town into nineteenth-place following their Kent derby day victory and face bitter rivals Sutton United in a vital game on New Years Day.
Bromley have collected 22 poionts from 18 games, mirroring Paul Doswell’s side, who
are one place higher in the pecking order.
The away game at Gander Green Lane on Boxing Day was a subject of a late postponment due to a waterlogged pitch.
“We need to go on a run now. We need to try and get three points if we can,” said Goldberg.
When asked what his target for the rest of the season is, Goldberg replied, “We’re going for an average of two points a game as the season goes on, but we’ve got a lot to make up, haven’t we?”
When asked whether Bromley are in a false position in the league with the quality players that are plying their trade at Hayes Lane nowadays, Goldberg replied, “I don’t think so because we’re where we are but even before yesterday’s game I was looking very positively at the squad that we’ve got and the team spirit than where I was this time last year.”
Goldberg has led the club into the FA Cup First Round on four occasions in the past six years but have fallen to League clubs Gillingham, Colchester United, Leyton Orient and Fleetwood Town on each occasion.
The club also look forward to a historic first ever appearance in the FA Carlsberg Trophy last sixteen when they travel to Blue Square Bet Premier side Dartford on 12 January 2013.
But Goldberg wants his side to replicate their impressive Cup form into the bread and butter of Conference South football after narrowly avoiding the drop in the final week of last season.
Bromley have won 11 of their 38 league games during 2012 and Goldberg said: “It has been a hard year, but at the same time if you look at the Cup competitions and they’re important commercially for the club. I don’t think we can really complain as long as we put it right in 2013 in the League. I believe we’ve got a good sqaud now.
“At this stage we really have to go into our game on Tuesday and go for the three points and then I believe that will set us up to move on.”
