I'm in limbo during January sales, admits Daish
Ebbsfleet United boss Liam Daish admitted yesterday that he’s satisfied with his current crop of players and is reluctant to buy during the January transfer window, writes Stephen McCartney.
The Fleet collected seven points during their three match festive period to remain ninth in the Blue Square Premier table.
With the My Football Club proposed takeover of the Stonebridge Road club still waiting to be completed, Daish admitted that he’s in "limbo."
"Things are slightly a grey area as we’re still in a little bit of a limbo at the moment," he told www.kentishfootball.co.uk.
"I just want to concentrate with the players that I’ve got at this moment in time and keep working with them and try and get the best out of them.
The Fleet ended their festive programme by beating their local rivals Grays Athletic 4-1 in front of their largest crowd of the season.
A crowd of 1,396 left Stonebridge Road with smiles on their faces as all four goals were scored by midfielders, with Neil Barrett, a left-footed brace from Stacy Long and Michael Bostwick sealed a comfortable win.
Daish yesterday heaped praise on teenage strike partners John Akinde, 18, and nineteen-year old Luke Moore and tells the more experienced Raphael Nade and Chukki Eribenne that the competition is good for them.
"That’s what competition’s all about as long as John and Luke are doing it, they’ll play," said Daish.
"I’m sure Raphael and Chukki realise that as well but it’s down to them to get back in the side, put pressure on me to play, but there’s a long season to go yet.
"You’ve only got to pick up a few injuries or suspensions start, there’s going to be opportunities for them to come in and keep the other players out."
Two goal hero Long, meanwhile, was pleased that the Kent side impressed in front of their largest crowd this season.
"The lads on the pitch and everyone around noticed the difference today," he said.
"The atmosphere was great and it gives us that little edge – it’s the 12th man.
"It would be fantastic if the crowds could be similar to that attendance and the support that they gave. If that continued that would be fantastic."
On his own performance, the left-sided midfielder added: "It’s nice to get the goals but again the performance was fantastic and the main thing now, can we continue that form?"
Reflecting on the game, Long, who has now scored six goals this season, said: "I think the main thing that came out of it today was just the performance from the first whistle.
"We had a little scare when they got it back to 2-1 (through Alan Power’s 64th minute solo effort), fortunately enough we got that third goal to make it 3-1 and from then on we were comfortable again."
Looking ahead to Weymouth’s visit to Stonebridge Road, Barrett, who was delighted to score his first goal for the club, urged fans to flock through the turnstiles again.
"It’s great to see people coming down and watch," he said.
"Hopefully we put on a decent display for them and hopefully that will put on a few more numbers for the Weymouth game."
He added: "They’re a good side. We can’t take anything for granted.
"We’ve got to approach the Weymouth game the way we approached today and hopefully (pick up) another three points."
