I am sure Fraser Franks will continue to develop in the Conference Premier, says Jamie Day

WELLING UNITED boss Jamie Day says he is delighted that defender Fraser Franks has re-signed for the club.

Franks, 22, a centre-back, who can also operate at full-back, enjoyed a great first season at Park View Road, culminating in a Conference South title winners medal and a first England C cap.

The former AFC Wimbledon player made 43 appearances for the Wings, scoring four goals.

“I’m delighted that Fraser has signed his new deal and we can look forward to the new season,” Day told the club’s website www.pitchero.com/clubs/wellingutd.

“He made a big impression on everyone at the club last season and we were all proud of him making his England C debut.

“I am sure that he will continue to develop in the Conference Premier and hopefully his performances will earn him more call-ups to future England C squads as a Welling United player.”

Meanwhile, Dartford boss Tony Burman unveiled the signing of left-sided defender Matt Fry, 22, from Ryman Premier League play-off winners Concord Rangers.

The Canvey-Island based side, who also won the Ryman League Cup, will be playing Conference South football next season, but will be without Fry who signed for the Princes Park outfit last night.

Fry signed his first professional contract at West Ham United in 2009 after joining as a youth player when he was 11.

He has experience with Gillingham, Charlton Athletic and Bradford City.

Burman told www.dartfordfconline.com: “Matt had trained with the club early last season prior to joining Concord Rangers.”

Kent’s two Conference Premier sides begin their pre-season campaign on Saturday 6 July.

Dartford welcome AFC Wimbledon to Princes Park, whilst the Wings welcome Charlton Athletic – who beat Tonbridge Angels 7-1 to win the Kent Senior Cup last season – to Park View Road.
