Hythe Town midfielder Ronnie Dolan offered trial at Welling United

HYTHE TOWN manager Scott Porter says midfielder Ronnie Dolan is set to train with Conference Premier new boys Welling United during pre-season.

Dolan, 21, wants to test himself at a higher level, but Porter told www.hythetownfc.co.uk that he will always be welcome back at Reachfields Stadium if things don’t work out at Park View Road.

Welling United player-manager Jamie Day and his coaching staff have a reputation of getting the best out of young players – on a smaller budget than many of their rivals’ - and sealed the Conference South title last season.

“Ronnie wants to try his luck at a higher level, but he goes with my best wishes, and I have left the door open,” said Porter.

Dolan joined Hythe Town at the start of the 2010-11 season from Ashford Town and instantly became a regular in the side.

He went on to be the winner of the manager’s player-of-the-year award for the last two seasons and was the most used player during his three years at the club with 141 appearances, not forgetting picking up winners medals for the Kent League and Kent Senior Cup.

Dolan also weighed in with 16 goals and 25 assists during his time at Reachfields and his departure will open the door for new signing Sam Bewick and if he continues in a Hythe shirt, last season’s loan signing from Ashford United, Jamie Collado, who is Dolan’s cousin!

Meanwhile, Hythe Town begin their pre-season campaign when Ryman Premier League side Margate visit Reachfields Stadium on Saturday 13 July (3pm).
